Co-Creating with Slime Mold
Fall 2022
A series of explorative portraits that use slime mold, a famously "non-conscious cognizer," to co-create novel, unexpected and complex works that speak to its unique intelligence.
At the start of the experiment, each petri dish contained different visual "oat maps" of potential pictorial representations to see how and if the slime mold would follow the easy path subscribed to it.
Although some sets encouraged reliable decision-making more than others, after a single week, each slime mold set a new course, made unexpected decisions, and created something new.
