Images of a Generation

Machine Learning/AI

Images of a Generation is a series of video and digital works created using early machine learning models in 2022 and revisited for a 2025 solo exhibition at The Front in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Developed through experimental training techniques that interrupted the generative process and combined conceptually linked but visually diverse datasets, the project captures AI's unpredictable and often surreal outputs during a formative moment in its development. The resulting images—poetic to absurd—reveal the raw, dreamlike aesthetics that emerged before generative technologies became more refined and uniform.

Straddling the line between art and artifact, intentionality and accident, Images of a Generation acts as Rorschach test that invites audiences to reflect on the socio-cultural forces that informed them and the rapidly evolving technology that birthed them. As a collection, they are a harbinger of what's to come and a time capsule of what once was, marking a fleeting moment when we could glimpse an algorithm's raw, alien aesthetic before the technology advanced, the output homogenized, and the curtain dropped for good.

Questions under artistic consideration:

What can early technology teach us about the alien aesthetics of artificial intelligence?

How might I encourage and preserve machine "dreams"?

Can provoking glitches expand our own creative thinking?

How can we reconsider the role that artificial intelligence plays as a modern co-creative force?
